Are You Shameless?

I've delayed writing this week to do something that I’ve been meaning to do right from the time lockdown began, to spend some quality time in prayer.

I tried to fast, but thanks to laziness and the never-ending demand for snacks and food, I got tempted to eat, like every single time I tried. (pathetic I know!) #momlife. Then I started praying and asking God to help me fast. You may ask me why I'd pray about something like this? Because we are ultimately trying to get closer to God by fasting then why can’t we put that will power use and actually fast.

I thought this way for years, till a few years ago, I was talking to a friend of mine and told her that I wasn’t able to spend time in prayer. My kids were little and I was exhausted right from the time I woke up till the time I got back to bed. That in fact was true, its just that I used it as a reason to stay at the same level for years, each time blaming motherhood and also some other situations that happened around that time.

As I was talking to this friend she simply said “Ask God to make you pray”. Honestly, I was laughing on the inside thinking how lazy is that! But I was proved wrong.

See, the truth is God listens to every word that comes out of our mouth, He is omnipresent and Omniscient. He is everywhere and knows everything and He just so happens to be Omnipotent, all-powerful. Yup! That’s our God.

The Bible tells us that in our weakness He is strong. Some versions say that His power is made perfect in our weakness.

“My grace is enough for you. When you are weak, my power is made perfect in you.”

2 Corinthians 12:9

So when this all-powerful God who says that His power is made perfect in our weaknesses, already knows what’s in our hearts and hears every word we speak… I think the decent thing to do is to just shamelessly ask Him to help you with things you are really struggling with.

The truth is, as adults, we think we need to behave a certain way with God. Yes, we do respect Him and His sovereignty, no doubt. But we most often forget that He is our Father more than anything. A parent. And remember, a parent has changed diapers, watched you grow up since you were a baby, and usually can predict your next reaction. Only, in this case, God is the one who put your every cell in place and numbered every hair on your head, even the one that's falling off your head right now has a number.

So what’s the point in hiding your weaknesses?

Would you rather deal with it yourself or have an all-powerful Dad take a look at it?

You know you’ve tried many times and failed. We all know that we don’t have the whole fruit of the Holy Spirit? Do you think you do? Well, I don't. I don’t have patience most of the time. Do you?

So why can’t we ask God for little things? We faithfully pray and encourage others to have faith. We pray for Nations. We pray for the salvation of our friends, then why not things deep down in us that we won’t dare to let others know?

We are Human Beings are not perfect. No matter where we stand spiritually, we know for a fact that we aren't perfect. Are we content with what we have? Don't we sometimes envy someone who's doing better than us?

Don't we judge people without knowing the whole truth? (Our closest family members are usually on this list)

Don't we get upset with our family every now and then?

Have we forgiven everyone on our Contact list?

Don't we feel bad when others get better opportunities than us? (Especially when we know that person has buttered their way to the top).

Then we not perfect!

God expects to be as vulnerable as the woman who wiped Jesus’ feet with her hair. Every one shunned her, but she knew that her savior knew her heart, the truth, the freedom that she longed for, and the rest she needed.

I sometimes think that God left Adam and Eve without clothes for a reason. He wanted them to be like children, innocent, without any logic and just pure love for the parent and yes shameless.

We are ashamed about our vulnerabilities, and for some reason, we are afraid to get exposed. But God is a gentleman. He didn't expose the woman who wiped His feet with her hair and He sent His disciples away before He spoke to the woman at the well.

So I want to ask you this today...

What is your weakness?

What are you struggling so hard, but keep failing to do?

What is your biggest vulnerability?

Are we shameless enough to ask your Father for help or are we too proud to say we can handle it?
